I am a thorough believer of ghost. Though I m yet to meet
one but the thing itself excites me and I am still afraid of darkness, still
attracted to haunted houses and secretly try planchets (smiley).
And not to forget, a mystical attraction towards Bengali
Literature…now a day’s translated Bengali books mostly been replaced by Bengali
movies in my life, the excuse being the so called busy schedule….(though I call
it the ‘rat race’…but I never stop running) So “Bhooter Bhobishyat” the name
itself was enough to attract me to the theater. And believe me….it was sheer
2.5 hours rejoice for all my senses.
The opening was dramatic. Pace was smooth and simple….enough
suspense to keep you glued. The concept was different. It’s about Ghost’s
rehabilitation. A satire to modern man’s ambitious projects at cost of
heritage, emotions and sentiments. Growing materialism and diminishing
attachments. Commercialization of almost everything in the world we are staying
right now and moreover our being ok about it.
It has its comic moments each better than the previous.
Hilarious to the core and all makes sense.
And….my picks of the movie-
Kadali bala- The same old story of an actress of
yesteryears, at the pick of success, non acceptance in the society. Hypocrisy
of men, having the woman on bed but with no courage to have her by side.
Subsequent frustrations and suicides. Stories not very much alien to our ears
& It’s still there somewhere, today…..
Biplab- The Comrade, the so called naxalite, the game of
power, politics & conspiracy, murders (encounters) and so on…very much
here in everyday morning papaers.
The Young Guy (forgot the name)- The young blood and the hot
blood. Rebels and their adjustment and existence dilemma. The different
dimension altogether…the world of dreams, freedom & rebellion. And it
has its price…..
The Young Gal (forgot the anme)- The conventional story of
being Love struck then heartbroken followed by an emotional suicide.…it was there
and it is still there
Darpan Roy- the Jamindar, the mindset and the rigidity to
change, the hypocrisy and the loyalty to the British. Somewhere whispers the
colonialism, the weak bureaucracy and the selfish and hollowness of the Indian
dilemma during the British era…the time has changed (!!)
Others-The Social sides, the highs and lows, the love and
hate and the co-existence of the souls together in harmony in spite of social
and cultural distances.
Each gives a feel of an era, an inherent message, exclusive
to its nature.
Going beyond, Ayan (Parambrata-I am a lil fan of this guy)-
The new age ambitious filmmaker , the link between the two worlds. He gets the
chance to amalgamate and make movie & gives a platform to the
grievances of the ghosts.
Awesome screenplay, simple but powerful narration…&
Nostalgic…YES!!
Another view point that’s knocking at my mind right
now…..are we actually resistant to change? If yes then why should we or why
should not we…..Or are we actually changing too fast and becoming too much
materialistic to even imagine the time when human emotions were considered a
quality and materialism a hated mindset….
People used to get satisfaction by mere presence of some
little things and which now is a mirage even with all worldly possessions we
relish.
Is it a rat race? A Mad race? & more over….Is it
worth?
……..after all it all has its pros & cons!
See the movie and conclude!!
